Basic tomato sauce
This easy and tasty tomato sauce is great to mix through pasta for a quick meal.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons crushed garlic
- 2 cans tomatoes (400 gram cans)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon cornflour (mixed with 2 tablespoons of water)
- black pepper
Method
- 1. Heat a non-stick pan over a medium heat. Add oil and tomato paste.
- 2. Cook until tomato paste darkens in colour, stirring regularly.
- 3. Stir in the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes.
- 4. Add the tomatoes and oregano and bring to the boil.
- 5. Reduce to a low heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- 6. Stir to break up the tomatoes.
- 7. Remove from heat and stir in cornflour mixture, oregano and black pepper.
- 8. Serve in place of store bought tomato pasta sauces.
